Spring in North Texas signals a fresh start – warmer days, longer evenings, and a shift toward storm season. After months of winter cold fronts, wind, and fluctuating temperatures, spring is one of the most important times of year to check in on your roof.

A little proactive maintenance now can help prevent leaks, interior damage, and emergency repairs later – giving you confidence as spring storms begin to roll through.

Here are the key roof maintenance tips every homeowner should keep in mind this season…

Check for Signs of Winter Damage

Even when there’s no visible issue from the ground, winter weather can leave behind subtle damage that worsens over time.

As spring begins, homeowners should look for:

  • Missing, cracked, or lifted shingles
  • Granules collecting in gutters or downspouts
  • Damaged flashing around vents, chimneys, or skylights
  • Soft spots or sagging areas that may indicate trapped moisture

Addressing these concerns early can help extend the life of your roof and avoid more costly repairs.

Clear Gutters & Ensure Proper Drainage

Spring rain is welcome – but only if your drainage system is ready.

Clogged gutters and downspouts can cause water to back up onto your roofline, behind fascia boards, or along your foundation. Clearing debris and ensuring proper water flow helps protect both your roof and your home’s structure.

Trim Overhanging Tree Branches

Spring growth can be beautiful, but branches hanging over your roof pose a risk during high winds and storms.

Overhanging limbs can:

  • Scrape and damage shingles
  • Drop debris that traps moisture
  • Create access points for animals

Trimming branches back helps reduce wear and tear and protects your roof through storm season.

Watch for Interior Warning Signs

Sometimes roof issues make themselves known inside the home first.

Be on the lookout for:

  • Ceiling stains or discoloration
  • Peeling paint near vents or skylights
  • Musty odors in the attic

These signs don’t always mean major damage – but they do mean it’s time to take a closer look.

Schedule a Proactive Roof Inspection

Spring is one of the best times to schedule a professional roof inspection – before storm season peaks and schedules fill quickly.

A professional inspection provides:

  • A clear understanding of your roof’s current condition
  • Documentation of any past storm damage
  • Peace of mind heading into the months ahead

We recently completed some exterior repairs including to replace the sidings for chimney. JC Martinez is the project manager who visited us first to understand what were needed to be done and did a thorough inspection. JC is very knowledgeable and professional and addressed the questions we had. He provided a quote for the project which explained each of items clearly with the associated cost. I'm very impressed by JC's professionalism, his attitude, and the way he communicated with me, a customer who were seeking a good company to do an excellent work on exterior repairs. The team, which JC coordinated, did an excellent work and completed the job timely. JC and his team deserve this five-start review.
Response from the owner:Hello Rong,

Thank you for your business and putting your trust in Dwell! I'm happy to hear that your experience with JC was very impressive and we look forward to working with you on your next roofing or exterior remodel project.

Thanks again,

Okay, I just HAVE to update my review. When I wrote my first review, Jesse only did roofs. Now, he has added more stuff. He just arranged a window replacement for me. Let me say that he hasn’t lost a step. Jesse is such a good guy. He is in business to make money, make no mistake, but that doesn’t faze him that he needs to take care of his customers. I really thought when he grew some, he might lose perspective. NOPE, he did not. He concentrates on the customer. What we need, and what we want. You just can’t go wrong with Dwell Roofing & Exteriors. You should call them.

Can I give 6 stars? Jesse, the Owner, is a top notch guy. Straight-dealing is what my Grandad would say. He does what he says he will do, and doesn't over promise. They are awesome, in simplest terms. He came out recently to replace some shingles lost in a wind storm. All my experiences have been great. He was thorough and quick, plus always above and beyond. Jesse will answer your questions, and make sure everything done is understood.

If you need roofing, why would call anyone else? I know that I won't. Trust in the roofing industry is a scarce commodity, and that is what I have with them.
Response from the owner:Thanks Thomas for the great feedback and being such a valued customer!

As always please reach out if you need anything.

Thanks again,
