Investing in solar panels is a significant decision for homeowners in Texas. As more people seek sustainable energy solutions, understanding the key aspects of solar panels—such as lifespan, warranty coverage, energy storage options, and system scalability—becomes crucial. It’s important to note that if you are looking at re-roofing, this is the perfect time to include solar panels as part of this process. Here, we’ll address common questions and provide insights into solar panel durability, performance in various weather conditions, and compatibility with different roofing materials.

1. Solar Panel Lifespan: How Long Do They Last?

Most solar panels are designed to last between 25 to 30 years. Over time, their efficiency may decrease slightly, but well-maintained systems can continue to produce energy beyond their expected lifespan. Factors affecting lifespan include the quality of the panels, the installation process, and regular maintenance.

2. Warranty Coverage: What to Expect

Solar panel warranties typically cover two main areas: performance and product. Performance warranties guarantee that the panels will produce a certain percentage of their original output (usually around 80%) after 25 years. Product warranties cover manufacturing defects and can range from 10 to 25 years, depending on the manufacturer. It’s essential to review and understand the warranty details to ensure long-term peace of mind. It is also important that a customer who is interested in solar communicates this with their roofing contractor as it could possibly void any warranties they have on the roof. If your roofer is aware during install of the roof/solar, they can ensure the warranty is enforced.

3. Energy Storage Options: Maximizing Your Solar Investment

Energy storage is a crucial component of a solar power system, especially in a state like Texas, where weather can be unpredictable. Options include:

Batteries: Store excess energy generated during the day for use at night or during power outages.

Grid-Tied Systems with Battery Backup: These systems allow you to stay connected to the grid while having a battery backup for emergencies.

Off-Grid Systems: Ideal for remote locations, these systems rely entirely on stored energy.

Choosing the right energy storage option depends on your energy needs, budget, and whether you want to be fully independent from the grid.

4. System Scalability: Growing with Your Energy Needs

Solar panel systems are highly scalable. You can start with a small setup and expand as your energy needs grow or as your budget allows. This flexibility is beneficial for homeowners who might want to add more panels in the future to accommodate increased energy usage or to take advantage of further advancements in solar technology.

5. Durability and Weather Performance

Solar panels are designed to withstand various weather conditions, making them suitable for the diverse climate in Texas. High-quality panels can endure:

Heat: Texas summers can be scorching, but most panels are tested to perform efficiently at high temperatures.

Hail: Panels are built with durable materials and are often tested to resist hail impact.

Wind: Proper installation ensures that panels can withstand strong winds.

Regular maintenance, such as cleaning and inspections, helps maintain performance and durability.

6. Compatibility with Roofing Materials

Solar panels can be installed on various roofing materials, including asphalt shingles, metal, tile, and flat roofs. Each type requires specific installation techniques to ensure stability and prevent roof damage. Working with a professional roofing company like Dwell Roofing ensures that the installation is done correctly and that your roof’s integrity is maintained.

Solar panels are a sustainable and cost-effective solution for Texas homeowners looking to reduce their energy bills and carbon footprint. By understanding the lifespan, warranty coverage, energy storage options, and system scalability, you can make an informed decision that suits your needs.

Great experience with Dwell Roofing & Exteriors and their project manager Josh De La Rosa. There was some confusion with project scope (skylight replacement and roof tune up) that I was unhappy with, but Josh and the owner stepped up and made everything right without hesitation. That kind of accountability and professionalism is rare and truly appreciated.

Josh was responsive, respectful, and kept me informed throughout the process via text and phone to make sure any concerns were addressed quickly and thoroughly.

It's easy to recommend a company when everything goes perfectly from the start—but it's even more impressive when a company cares for their customer and goes above and beyond to make things right. Will use again!
Response from the owner:Hello Bryan, I'm sorry to hear that your experience with Dwell was considered unsatisfactory. The details of the review are a bit confusing as we do not perform any work prior to receiving a signed scope of repairs. In this case you approved agreed work to be performed in the amount of $2,657.46 Please feel free to reach out to the office to discuss with management the initial approved scope and any billing questions. Thank you, *Update* Hello Bryan, Thank you for taking the time to update your review after we worked out the issues/confusion! We always strive to see the project through to conclusion and positive customer satisfaction but many times the review becomes an afterthought and is not updated after the fact. We appreciate you taking the time as it helps give clarity and the full picture of how we do business to future customers. Thanks again,
